Tips to Have the Best Virtual Book Fair Experience

Tips to Have the Best Virtual Book Fair Experience

There are a handful of good reasons why we should go to book fairs or events. One is because we get to see and meet people with the same interest as ours.  But there is more to it other than that. Book fairs give a chance to publishers to showcase their talented authors. It also offers readers, like me, the opportunity to browse through a wide variety of compelling and substantial book.

One of the best book fairs I have attended is the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB). For 25 years, this book fair has thrived, never failing to hype up bookworms, including me, every year. Each year, this festival of books gets even grander. It has become one of the largest book festivals in the United States, offering book lovers countless of amazing books. Like all the other book events, LATFOB 2020 went virtual because of the pandemic. But, it did not stop it from making the event successful. Hopeful that the crisis will mitigate in the coming year, they plan to hold the said fair on the USC grounds. In the mean time, we must make sure that our health is looked after. Virtual book fairs will be our way not to miss the exceptional experience of book fairs.

If you are as interested in attending virtual book fairs like me, you must make sure that you make the most out of the experience. Thus, this blog will help you in doing so. Below are some of the ways in how we can have the best experience of virtual book fairs:

Chat With Other Participants

This is one of the best things about book events— we get to meet many people with the same interest as ours. There is nothing better than a friendship where everybody can relate to what we like to do, right? Thus, for us book lovers, these kinds of events are for us. The last time I went to a book fair, many of those people I met are still one of my closest friends. Having virtual book fairs will not put an end to this kind of opportunity. We can always chat with other participants online. This way, we still bond with them.

Come Prepared

You must take time to review the program of the conference. You don’t want to miss anything about it. Make sure that you know all the schedules for all the happenings. The last thing that you want to do is to be late for a conference of your favorite author, or worse, your conference. Make sure to visit all the sites of your book fairs you plan to attend and screenshot the schedule. Let us all mark our calendars so that no one will miss out on anything.

Build Connections

No matter what your role is for the event, whether you are a reader, publisher, or an author. It is very important to make build connections with others. As mentioned above, making friends is the best thing about these kinds of events. That is why when I attend book fairs, I always push myself to be confident and open up to people. I find that doing this will only benefit you more than the other. Building connections will push you to write great stories, yourself.

Market Your Book

If you are an author reading this, literary festivals are the best way for you to find your target readers. It will help your book gain popularity and will help with the sales of your book. Take advantage on promoting your book personally, giving you the chance to connect with the readers deeper. To achieve this quest, you need to make use of marketing tools, such as brochures and flyers the you can distribute to the attendees. However, for virtual event, you can still achieve this at a maximum level. You can use other online or electronic marketing tools, such as email. You can also use your social media channels. Make sure that you have the most enticing content that can captivate their attention.

Overall, the benefits and reasons we get from attending virtual book fairs are no different than physical book fairs. We can still have the best time while keeping ourselves safe and healthy at home.
