5 Ways to Become a More Prolific Author

Do you want to become a successful author? If yes, then you need to write, write, and write. Productivity is a fundamental aspect of literary success. If you want to make it big in the literary industry, you should establish your relevance in the market by putting more and more works out there. Basically, this means that you need to be a prolific author. You need to write more in order to be read more. Oftentimes, however, writing profusely is not easy. Nonetheless, there are some effective ways you can do to enhance your productivity and become a more prolific author.

Establish a goal

To become a prolific author, you need to determine a writing goal for yourself. Establishing a goal streamlines your writing process because it gives you an idea on what you want to achieve as an author. You might want to publish a book or two by the end of the year; you might want to become a member of an established circle of authors; or you might simply want to enhance your literary skills by writing profusely. Regardless of whatever you want to achieve, it is important that you set a realistic and reachable literary goal.

Get inspiration from others

Sometimes, lack of inspiration can dull a creative mind. If you want to become a driven and productive author, you need to keep yourself inspired all the time. You can actually find inspiration everywhere. Particularly, reading the works of other authors can be a good source of inspiration, and it can even give you some ideas on how to improve your writing. There are plenty of platforms out there where you can get such inspiration. Online literary hubs, particularly, are a great way to connect and learn from your fellow authors. ReadersMagnet Authors’ Lounge is an example of these hubs. It is an online platform that allows you to read stories written by many authors and also share yours. By joining this platform, you will not only have the chance to be inspired, but you can also increase your confidence in your writing. Currently, ReadersMagnet Authors’ Lounge has a redeemable voucher campaign in which you can get $250 worth of publishing and marketing packages if you sign up now.

Get rid of your perfectionist tendencies

Generally, being a perfectionist can help you reach excellence, but it also has some disadvantages. One of these disadvantages is that sometimes, your desire to achieve perfection all the time might be turning you into a vulnerable creative who can be easily overpowered by errors and failures. As a result, you tend to become a slow, unproductive, and stagnant author who always hesitates to try new literary endeavors out of fear of failing. Such an attitude will not help you get somewhere. If you want to become a prolific and successful author, you should not be afraid of failing sometimes because failure is an inevitable part of any career. Overcome your perfectionist tendencies. Allow yourself to make bad first drafts and learn from your writing errors instead.

Stay focused

Distraction is the worst enemy of productivity. If you are constantly distracted by a lot of things, it can really be difficult for you to achieve your literary goal or improve your creative production process. For this reason, if you want to become a prolific author, you need to remove all of the distractions around you that might be hindering your productivity. Turn your television off, put your mobile phone on silent mode, and find a quiet place where you can concentrate on your writing. In essence, create an environment that can help you stay focused as an author.

Be passionate

If distraction is the archenemy of productivity, passion is its best friend. Whatever you are doing, you can be productive in it if you have the passion for it. Particularly, being prolific and producing a great amount of literature from time to time would be easy for you if you are a passionate author. The reason behind this is that having the passion for doing something essentially allows you to enjoy doing it. If you are passionate about writing, you will always find the time to write not just because you need to but because you love to.

Overall, to become a more prolific author, you need to have a goal, an inspiration, the right attitude, focus, and passion for what you are doing. Writing and producing literature is not easy, but you can always make it less exhausting and more fulfilling by having the right attitude and mindset. If you put your whole mind and heart to it, you will soon come to love writing not merely as a job that you need to accomplish every day but as an essential part of your life that gives you a sense of purpose.

  1. Perfectionism really is the killer of creativity. I have written for most of my life, and have recently picked up drawing, and I’m seeing the similarities between both disciplines.

It’s the drawing equivalent of ‘not wanting to draw because you’re afraid you’ll waste the good paper’, then realising that your progress (or even your best work) is often found in the times when you don’t care about producing your best work to date.

Solid advice here. Thanks for sharing!
