The occurring pandemic has brought a lot of misfortunes, caused thousands of deaths, put a stop to important events, and prevented people from living normal lives. It is already past the half of the year but the virus seems like enjoying its stay and has no plans to go away sooner. As a result, people are slowly adjusting to the idea of what they called as the “new normal.” It is where everyone is limiting their outdoor exposure, practice proper hygiene, and wear a mask when going out.
Although not everybody is open with this thought because there are still many who violate the health safety regulations imposed by the government, there are several factors that this quarantine period can be blessing in disguise. Writers, for example, can benefit from not going out by producing great masterpieces and spreading it out to the literary world either through digital or the old-school way.
If you are an author in the making or are already an established author who is on the works for another story but is stuck in quarantine, here are some things that you need to know on how these trying times can produce remarkable pieces of literature.
An idea for a new story may pop out of the blue
Being stuck in your homes to avoid the risk of getting infected can become heaven and hell. Your feet may be itching to enjoy the outside and get some inspiration from random things but, trust me, your home is the best place to exercise your brain and get the creative juices on the works. You can never know that while mopping the floor, a random idea for a story might pop in your mind that will shake the literary world through its core. You can be the next Walt Whitman or Emily Dickinson of today!
The unfinished manuscript can be completed
Sitting by the windowsill and watching the world go by or drinking your morning coffee at your balcony while observing the outside can give you some idea and will to continue writing the story that you have drafted. There may be a manuscript that you didn’t get to finish because you didn’t have the time or due to other reasons. Since being on quarantine and avoiding the outdoors are still two of the best options to stay safe, you may as well take advantage of this time to continue what you have started and produce a wonderful tale that can touch the hearts of many.
Data gathering can be done thoroughly
Every great story contains information that is well-researched and constructed. Apart from your gift of writing and your ability to create a world that is out of the ordinary, you also need to hone your skill in data-gathering because literature is not always a pigment of your imagination. Your story needs to have proper and strong foundation because you cannot trick your readers to believe into something with no particular basis or an image that they can picture out in their minds. So maybe in the middle of your writing or before you start your tale, you can allocate some time to research for basis or inspiration for a fragment of your masterpiece thoroughly.
The pressure of completion before the deadline will be eliminated
Deadlines are, indeed, deadly but not in a literal way. The pressure that is formed by meeting the deadline set by your literary agent or yourself — if you opt to self-publish, can really become nerve-racking. In order for you to eliminate the pressure or at the very least let some of the combustion get out, you can take advantage of your staying-at-home situation to write in a slow but sure pace. Thus, hitting two birds with one stone because you are not behind the deadline and is maintaining a good quality story because of the opportunity given to you by time.
